GOLF FOLLY

The briefing was to design a folly, in which to hide, at an exciting location. I live near a golf club, and there I found the shelters rather boring and simple. I decided to change that.

Because a golf course has organic shapes, I researched these shapes. My starting point is Zaha Hadid, an architect who often works with organic shapes. I came across buildings of hers where I saw a golf club shape.

After a lot of drawing and measuring, I designed a natural, organic folly, which merges onto the grass.

Natural materials have been used. Corten steel is weather resistant, has a long lifespan and blends well in nature. Glass is translucent, weather resistant and dimensionally stable. Glass in nature reflects the environment which can give an impressive picture. Sedum is a succulent plant that can handle harsh conditions. It does not dry out, does not freeze to death and has beautiful flowers all year round. Sedum therefore always remains beautifully green, so that you see a fresh green work of art on the golf course that flows into the lawn at any time of the year.
