RUÏN / TEAHOUSE

In the masterclass Architecture, I researched Astley castle designed by Witherford Watson Mann. These men have a special preference for ruins and old buildings. What appeals to me is the way they turned a ruin into a new building; Astley castle is a construction of a new house within the remains of a listed historic structure.

After te research, I chose to place a glass tea house surrounded by a wooden construction in the middle of a ruin. The glass was copied from the built-in skylight in the castle. The wooden construction is reflected in the stairwell and in the ceiling. You approach the object in such a way that the sight lines of the structure come into its own. The tea house rests on a concrete block so that you get a floating effect
